Huntress by Julie Hall

4.0

*Disclaimer* My dad runs a bookstore and gets all kind of free copies of books when he goes to conferences, I'm 90% certain I grabbed this one from his stash of books from such events. Because I'm a book whore and if you're family, and I think it looks interesting I'm going to take it to read.

Overall I think this is a really well done Christian YA book. Personally, I loved it. Julie Hall manages to weave a compelling story with a Christian worldview with out it being cheesy or vaguely allegorical as the case often is. On a more objective approach, for those strongly opposed to the Christian world view, probably not going to be your cup of tea because of the afterlife/God/Salvation themes.

I'm excited to read the rest to see where the story goes. I personally loved that Hall doesn't try to play down some of the mirkier aspects of what heaven will be like. She doesn't write heaven as a completely ethereal place of spirit only, nor does she write it as if it is merely a continuation of the earthly life. She finds a balance that I find refreshing. All in all, I think this book is a great example of how untrite YA books that have strong Christian themes can be written and work.
