Three Sides of a Heart: Stories about Love Triangles by Natalie C. Parker

3.0

I liked this anthology but my wig was not **snatched
it was light and entertaining and some of the stories were pretty good. Nothing stood out to me as AmAziNg but the authors had some fairly creative interpretations of the love triangle - which is a trope that I usually can’t stand. The stories were at times sad, sexy, sweet and thrilling.
There was a lot of sci fi and fantasy which I liked but I prefer contemporary genre short stories because it’s difficult to absorb tons of new world building in the span of like 30 pages. The stories got better in the second half.
Individual ratings:

1. Riddles in Mathematics- meh. Pretty predictable and not very interesting. 2/5

2.Dread South-The main character was racist and annoying. Too much world building and character development for a short story. Wrapped up too suddenly. Not my cup of tea. 1/5

3.Omega Ship- definitely had my attention, pretty entertaining . I think the ending was supposed to be some inspiring feminist statement but I found it kind of weird and crackheadish not gonna lie. 3/5

4.La Revancha Del Tango- I didn’t like any character in this. I could tell that the writer was good but the whole concept was underdeveloped and weak. 2/5

5. Cass An and Dra- pretty good . Well thought out , interesting but kinda weird. Once again it was alright but not my cup of tea. 3/5

6. Lessons for Beginners - cute (: stereotypical but it got the job done. 4/5

7.Triangle Solo- I don’t know why but I really liked this one. The characters were funny and the concept was cool. Love triangle could have been a little more developed.4/5

8.Vim and Vigor- meh. Didn’t really interest me at all. Nothing hooked me about the main character and she was kind of annoying. 2/5

9. Work in Progress- this was so confusing i don’t even know what happened 1/5

10.Hurdles- I liked this one, main character was interesting , love triangle element was good and I liked the story but the ending was dumb. 4/5

11. The Historian, The garrison , and the cantankerous catwoman- this started out ok but once again the world building in this could have been for an entire book series not just one short story. Weird, but I liked the ending. We love a good plot twist . 3/5

12.waiting- idk why but I loved this one. I really liked the main character but didn’t really agree with her final choice. Edit: I actually lied I don’t even remember how this ended let’s be honest 5/5

13.vega - sad, but good writing. I actually enjoyed this one a lot. The characters were super enticing. 4/5

14. A Hundred Thousand Threads- I was so confused at first (maybe because I was listening to an audiobook) but this was actually a super cool story. I would read this if it were a full sized book . 4/5

15. Before She Was Bloody- OnCe AgAin so much world building!! But I liked this one a lot . Really interesting and kinda weird. Wont deny I like a sexy sister short story 5/5

16. Unos Duo Tres- perfect amount of creativity mixed with classic stereotypes. I won’t deny vampires are hot, but this was actually a surprisingly smart and beautiful story. Actually made me think a thought which is unusual for YA. Props to Bethany Hagen sister rlly snapped. 5/5
