An intriguing tale of mystery and murder blending art history with chess. Quite dense at times, but I enjoyed the atmosphere it built, even if some of the attitudes on display were revealing of the book's age. The explanation of the bishop's nature and symbolism  in the climactic reveal was a bit of an eyeroll moment for me
