I’m very torn on my review. Maybe it’s because I took way too long to read it, but I kept thinking “I love this in theory, but in practice…” I feel like I’m the perfect audience for the central thesis (as I read it, the world crashing down but “trivial” things like love and friendship mattering), and yet I wanted more from the characters or the plot, or something. Whether it was timing, or lack of engagement with the text, or my personal taste, I couldn’t get fully invested in the characters’ lives.
