Shadows Linger by Glen Cook

3.0

Quite a few changes from the first book of the series. Instead of several intertwined short stories, we get one complete story that's told from the perspectives of two characters switching off every chapter. There is a little setting development in such things as showing us that in a True Name magic setting, people of little importance do actually go around using their real names. It felt like there were fewer characters to focus on this time (or I've gotten better at keeping them organized while reading). A lot of little improvements over the previous book, but nothing that really made it stand out from the other one.

The ending leaves me curious to see how things are going to start to play out in the rest of the series. I'm not sure if I wasn't expecting what happened, or if I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon. I think the time skip between the two books may have something to do with that.
