The Guncle by Steven Rowley

4.0

I enjoyed the book, even though I wasn't sure if I got the humor. There were several references on celebrities and characters from shows which I could not understand and felt as clueless as the kids in the story. There was sarcasm at play and fun stuff with kids, but the story is more serious than silly (as I had expected it to be).

I loved the way the issues are mentioned and tackled, the grief of loss; how it festers when not handled properly and how with right support and love one can overcome it, the acceptance of identity, the stress on living a life than surviving it. The Guncle rules, even though numerous and some of them nonsense, were entertaining and profound in its manner.

All in all, a good story with nice message. It is enjoyable if read without a expectation on too much humor.
