I liked the romance a lot. The story and writing sometimes felt a bit lacking, but I liked some parts of it and thought Alosa was cool, but found myself to be uninterested in her abilities honestly. Since the last quarter focused a lot on these abilities, I found myself a bit bored during that section and just wanted it to be sped through to get back to another romantic moment. Yet, overall, fun and sweet, romance in its own way (full of fun bickering and pirate violence) with some really fun side characters that I liked so much, it was always a joy when they were present. The amount of death surprised me for a young adult book, but it made the setting more realistic. The audiobook was very good as well. I am considering reading the second book, mainly for two of the male side characters and because the conclusion to this book was satisfying all the way until we returned to the couple together, which didn't leave a satisfying end to the romance at all, and I wanted to see Riden joining the crew. No kiss after the story?! What the heck? Seemed like a perfect moment and end.
