First of all,  this book broke me.  You will need tissues. Lots of tissues. It's one of those books where you're scared to read the last chapter because you don't want the worst to happen. But you need to read the last chapter so you aren't scared of the outcome any more. I'll admit that I guessed the ending.  Well, some of how it ended.  But that's ok.  It's not a mystery book after all.

I loved Claire right from the off. As a single Mum of 2, how could I not. I think she and I are similar in a lot of ways.
I thought Marcus was a stuck up prick at times.  His preconceived ideas about Claire, based on her being a single mum made me so angry. But,  underneath that, he was a lovely caring person who was willing to learn about others.  I loved his relationship with Colin was lovely.
I found Gavin to be very interesting,  in some ways he perfectly matches my experience of social workers.  And in others he seems,  in my opinion,  to be very unprofessional.

The story telling immediately transported me back to those scary days at the start of Covid, at one point I took a break from reading,  scrolled social media and forgot that it wasn't 2020, we weren't in lockdown and people were allowed to be going out for dinner!

The timings of the book match my memories of that time almost perfectly (other than a mention of bubbles before I remember them existing.)

I honestly could write an essay on how much I love this book and why. But it might be easier if you just go and buy a copy to read yourself!
