As a fan of the Skyland series, I was very excited to pick up the latest novel.
“Can’t Get Enough” follows Hendrix and Maverick. Hendrix is a highly driven, successful woman who is presently struggling to cope with her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Maverick is a self made billionaire who is going through a break up with his longtime girlfriend. When the two cross paths because of the girlfriend, they are not expecting to hit it off, but their chemistry is undeniable.
I really enjoyed that Hendrix is childless, and wishes to remain childless, by choice. Having children is not for everyone, and it is not a requirement to make you a woman. Hendrix has surrounded herself with friendships that will transcend time, and she gets to be the fun aunt to a bunch of children. She will not change her mind when she meets the right guy and she does not have to. She is successful and leads a fulfilling life all on her own.
I really appreciate that Kennedy Ryan does not shy away from more serious, important issues in her novels. This book tackles the issue of racism and affirmative action with such poignant and sharp language, yet I never felt like I was being lectured and forced to learn a lesson. It is just woven into the story so seamlessly. These topics are important to discuss, and I love that Kennedy Ryan is not afraid to put them into a romance novel. There is an author’s note at the end that discusses her decision and inspiration to include these topics as a plot line that I felt was an incredible addition to my reading experience.
Maverick is such a good man. He knows exactly how to support Hendrix without overstepping and still allowing her to be the leader of her own destiny. He also never pushes her or tries to change her mind about anything, even if the answer he receives is not the one he wants to hear.
Hendrix is a strong, independent main character, and I really enjoyed seeing her flourish. She is really struggling with what to do with her mom, and during the novel she is really in the thick of decisions for Alzheimer’s.
Hendrix and Maverick are so great together. Their chemistry is undeniable, but they do take their time getting together so that they can ensure that this is the right decision for all involved. Their spicy scenes are extra hot and so well written.
I enjoyed every moment reading this novel and I cannot wait for the next to come out!
