My poor baby heart! That final battle wrecked me. I was terrified this book was going to flop, but I’ve never been happier to be wrong. It was everything I didn’t know I needed.
I really enjoyed Heartless Hunter, but this one? So much better. The enemies-to-lovers arc between Rune and Gideon absolutely delivered. Their relationship had so much depth and complexity—they were both flawed in different ways, but they made it work. I was so emotionally invested in them.
The magic system and world building remained top-tier in this sequel. It was fast-paced, action-packed, and the slow burn was chef’s kiss. I was hooked from beginning to end, and I didn’t expect to cry as many times as I did.
Their found families? So strong, so loyal—I loved every moment with them. My only wish is that we got a bit more of their future together, just to ease the ache in my heart.
Overall, an amazing book and probably my new favorite duology.
