I really wanted to love Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab, but it just didn’t work for me. The pacing felt slow and, at times, I struggled to feel like the plot was moving forward. The multiple points of view and overlapping timelines were difficult to keep track of, which pulled me out of the story instead of drawing me in.
While I hoped to connect with the characters, there was something missing that kept me from truly caring about their journeys. I’ve enjoyed Schwab’s other books, but sadly, this one fell flat for me. A beautifully written premise, but ultimately a miss in execution—for me, it lands at three stars.
