Alienated by Melissa Landers
5.0

I read Alienated a little less than a month ago and it feels like I read it yesterday. Every chapter built up to the climax and furthered the character development. The main characters are Cara (human) and Aelyx (alien). In the beginning it is clear that Cara does not like Aelyx's presence. However, she learns to deal with it because she sees his presence as a way to promote her blog and help with her college applications. Yes, she is only it it for her motives.

Cara gets the idea that she needs to make Aelyx as comfortable as possible in order to get answers about L'eihr (again, to promote her blog). Immediately, the humans start protesting that the aliens should go back to their country. These humans get more dangerous by the day. The protests, however, cause Cara to no longer see Aelyx as a project, but a person. And once we begin to see her grow to like Aelyx, all the feels come on.

Cara is willing to give up her social status, her friends, and her education to protect Aelyx from the threats he faces. The climax of their relationship is in Chapter Seventeen. And I must admit, out of all the books I have read this chapter is by far the best scene ever. It is so cute and it makes me want an Aelyx as my boyfriend.

The feels are real at that moment!

The feels become short lived though because tension and awkwardness between the two skyrocket which crushed my dreams. *sigh* I needed a minute to regroup after that! But don't worry! A little bit of recovery occurs!

At the end, the parents of Cara take on an important role. The role they play goes against every parent cliche in young adult books. And for their actions, Cara's parents became the heroes of the story. I like the parents far more than Cara! Is that bad?

One suggestion I have is that you pay close attention to the secondary characters because the role they play in the end is vivid. Characters that you may not like, you will be rooting for and characters you like, well they may just end up on the naughty list.

The ending of the book makes me want to curl up in a corner and cry. No, it is not necessarily the end of the world, but it still was sad. The ending was the best ending the book could ever have because roles become reversed causing the reader to see a new perspective in the sequel.

I have yet to read the sequel titled Invaded, but I am sensing a love triangle. Whether that happens, I will let you know!

I completely recommend this book. Even if alien books are not your thing, I suggest you try this one. This story will be unlike anything you have ever read!
