This was fun, but wowโ€”it moved fast. Like, zero-to-obsessed in record time. I love a good slow burn, some build-up and tension, but Caleb (the straight roommate) basically decided within days that he was totally fine being obsessed with Whit, and the rest was history! While their dynamic was cute, I wanted more push and pull and more anticipation before they fell into their relationship.

Caleb was quick to fall. He was super clingy in an adorable way, but it just didn't feel realistic to me. He was so laid-back about everything, which is great, but it also made me question his character a lot. As the story went on, you do learn more about him, and I can see why he's so clingyโ€”he clearly craves the comfort Whit gives him. Whit was a good character, but he was so quiet and mysterious that I didnโ€™t feel like we really got to see much of his personality. His horrible upbringing explains why heโ€™s so controlling and stuck in his ways, but I wanted to see a bit more fun from him.

These two were complete oppositesโ€”Whit was unexpectedly possessive, and Caleb was just all-in, no hesitation, not at all shy, and ready to take on the world. Their dynamic was fun, even if the pacing was a little wild. I definitely felt for Caleb at the endโ€”well, both of them reallyโ€”but Caleb had the rug pulled from beneath him, and I really felt for him. They had some really cute and fun moments, too, though!

This was my first Cora Rose book, and while I enjoyed it, the writing style was a little exaggerated at times. I also listened to the audiobook, which might have made it feel even more over the top. Maybe reading it instead would have changed my view slightly, though Iโ€™m not sure by much. It was entertaining and not a bad read at all. I liked it but didnโ€™t love it. Probably not one Iโ€™d reach for again.
