This is definitely a captivating story. None of the main characters are particularly likable in this first book. The author describes them as morally gray, and that rings true throughout the book. Rylee is the most sympathetic of the main characters, mostly because this is a single POV story, so we’re only getting her perspective. We get insight into her motivations and emotions, but that still doesn’t excuse her actions, especially ones that negatively affect others.
There is a lot of angst - like, a lot-a lot. Plenty of conflict keeps the story moving, and a fair amount of spice keeps things interesting. This isn’t quite a bully romance, but it’s absolutely not insta-love. Prepare to go back and forth with your feelings on some characters! I’m hoping the next book shows us more sides to certain characters, and a few folks need to do some serious groveling.
