Modern retelling of David Copperfield.  I have not read the original so now on my TBR.  Story set essentially in late 1990s to 2000s.  Demon is born into poverty living with his mom in a rented trailer.  It focuses on the hurdles that are in place for people who are poor and how difficult it is to escape.  Demon ends up on the foster care system which is terrible and full of people not caring and just trying to make extra money.  Mix in the issue of the opiod crisis that persisted due to unethical doctors and pharma companies.  Well written and you come to care about the characters in the book even though they at times are not very loveable.  Highly Recommend but not a feel good story.
