I have heard of Mardini's story back when she went to the Rio 2016 olympics as an avid sports and olympic watcher, so when I heard about this book, I just had to read it. This is a memoir following Mardini and her decision to want to leave Syria to Germany and her journey to the Rio 2016 olympics. The story was emotional and heartbreaking and it really delves into how Mardini feels about being a refugee and how while she is appreciative about living abroad, she also misses home. It talks about growing up in a war zone and how the decision to leave is never an easy one. I wish the pacing of this book was a bit better though. It felt like she was rushing to get to certain parts of her life. Like I wanted more of her early life and her life adjusting to living in a new country. However, this did not affect my reading experience because the message she put in the book still came across clearly. There is also a movie which is on Netflix, which I will be watching soon.
Overall an important read and I would recommend.
