Love Is Love: A Comic Book Anthology to Benefit the Survivors of the Orlando Pulse Shooting by Marc Andreyko

3.0

I feel kind of mixed on this one. While the money from the sales of this book went to a great cause (Equality Florida), I was ultimately disappointed that most authors wrote “safe radical” comics. Platitudes like “love is love” and “we all bleed the same” just don’t even begin to address the joy and sorrow of the queer experience. And many of the comics generalized this particular incident into “isn’t it a shame there’s violence in the world?” Or “we’re all different in our own way.” Plus lots of erasure of the fact that it was Latin night and mostly PoC who died in the shooting. And trans, enby, and ace erasure.
