- For a very first published novel it's a high quality read.
- There are a lot of elements I liked:political schemes that interacted with each other, reflection of the characters themselves, strong female lead in a society where that's rare - and she's successful a lot of the time, the thoughts and emotions of characters are comprehensible - even the villain, the villain turns from the dark side to a grey side, mysterious and intriguing magic system, a lot of sub plots that just make sense while flowing into each other - plus the plot-twists they work with/ are caused by them
- There are a lot of elements I liked:
Graphic: Death, Sexism, Xenophobia, Religious bigotry, Death of parent, Abandonment, War, Classism, Deportation
Moderate: Body horror, Genocide, Grief, Murder
Minor: Cursing, Emotional abuse, Racism, Slavery, Torture, Blood, Excrement, Fire/Fire injury, Alcohol, Injury/Injury detail
