One of the best known children's fantasy novels about a child named Alice who follows a white rabbit down a hole in her garden into Wonderland. Wonderland is populated by the fantastic creatures the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, a deck of cards, a hookah-smoking Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat. Alice eventually finds her way home but in this version of the book she once again ends up in Wonderland after wandering through the Looking glass which has a lot of chess symbolism scattered throughout.

There's not much really to say about the characters or the plot. Alice and the creatures she encounters are some of the best loved characters in all of fiction, but especially in children's fiction. I had never read all the way through The Looking Glass so figured it was high time to do so. I read the Annotated copy which is bursting with notes and jokes that were current in the 1860's when these novels were written. There is no adult language, sex, or liquor as this is a children's book. It would be an excellent novel for readers ages ten and up.
