The Yaga family comes face to face with a dark being from their family’s past when they inherit Thistlefoot - a house on legs owned by their ancestor. While dealing with their own magical quirks, they must face down fears they have within, as well as the Long Shadow Man.

I finished this book feeling a little lost for a few reasons. I absolutely love anything dealing with different folklore, especially when it comes to magical/supernatural tales. This book doesn’t feel like it ties these stories into the characters much at all, however. It attempts to tie Slavic and Jewish lore together, but falls flat in the reasoning. I was unsure of how the Long Shadow Man(a dybbuk-like entity seeking the Yaga’s destruction) came to chase down their family. I wanted it to connect more.

I do feel like Isaac and Bellatine did have a great growth arc between the both of them. That’s something I think Nethercott wrote on well, and I just wish the rest of the story felt as put together as theirs did.

Over all, 3.25 stars.
