One of the worst reads ever this year and every year. I still may read the rest of the series just to finish it and as a hate-read. Literally Twilight copy paste - terrible unoriginal characters, terrible unoriginal plot. Only cool thing was the setting. One of the best parts of monster-based books is the lore and cool powers and this MC just doesn't care at all so we never learn any of that. Also WORST MC EVER. I wouldn't mind as much if the monster thing WEREN'T IN THE SUMMARY or if it weren't so obvious. It became painful torture when she claims to be culturally aware and knowledgeable about YA fiction (aka monster lore and 'new girl at school' trope) and still can't pick up on the obvious clues around her.
