This book suffered from a fair bit of mismarketing imo. Everything I saw about it went hard into the dark fairy tale vibes, Red Riding Hood tie-ins, moodiness in general....and what I got was a perfectly serviceable YA Beauty and the Beast story with a kind of cult/religious extremism twist. If I had gone in knowing that I'm pretty sure I would have liked it better, but as it is I still want the book that they marketed more than the one I read.
