Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall

4.0

Not an easy read but an important one. It truly changed a lot of my perspectives and opened my eyes to a lot of ways society is failing all women by failing marginalized women. My favorite essay was Fear in Feminism which went in to how mainstream feminism ends up supporting the patriarchy - there was a quote along the lines of we must not only empower women but question whay we are empowering them to do. I listened on audio, so I can't check my quotes. Despite that drawback, I liked it on audio. It was personal to hear the plea in the authors voice and to listen to each essay almost like a podcast episode. Worth a read or a listen... Maybe even before you vote.
