I want to give this book more stars...ALL THE STARS! This book is a collection of essays shedding light on the little bureaucratic government jobs that could...and do. Each journalist takes a dive into some lesser known government employee, describing what they do, how what they do affects us all in ways we can't even comprehend, how they do it with limited resources, how they are insanely modest, and describes how each and every single one of them is doing this job for the greater good especially since the private sector would be more lucrative.

I think this book needs to be required reading for literally every single person in this country. So few understand what these government positions are and even less where their tax dollars go - granted the jobs discussed in this this book get the tiniest of fractions of the government budget. These are the positions that are being eliminated. These are the jobs, critical to our everyday lives, that will go undone and our lives will worsen because of it.

I want there to be dozens more installments of this book. I also think, and this was not a goal of the book, that this book makes a case for why there should be mandatory civil service so that there is a deeper understanding and respect for government work.
