Support your local vampire businesses y’all. It’s weird for me to say this, because I’m used to the second or third book of a series to be the better one, but in this case, the first one takes the cake.

Hot Blooded was interesting. I liked how we got a glimpse of who Alex was in the vampire world and what consequences his death brought. Amos was amazing; and I loved how there was this duality to him.

Tessa was… nice. And here, I think, is where my problem with this book comes from. First off, her name is Tessa. Why author? What have I done so wrong for you to name your character ‘Tessa’?” I was hoping Amos would do the trope of “Only I use her full name” but it didn’t happen. This is just me being nit picky, though. Then comes the fact that this girl has no friends. She doesn’t have a favorite band or movie. Her character is… nice and a little strong headed. But that’s basically all she is.

Something was missing from this book. I don’t know if it was the setting, which I thought was phenomenal in Cold Hearted, or if it was the characters. Both, probably. It was very insta-lovey and there wasn’t anything in it except the romance. I would’ve liked to explore Tessa’s struggle with her family more. See her go out with friends and see her doing something she liked. At the end, it felt like Amos was her savior.

Like I stated previously, I thought Amos was way more interesting. I thought that by the end he had grown; especially by taking a fatherly role. Tessa on the other hand, could’ve used more attention. Not saying she didn’t have any growth at all, but it seems that individually, without Amos, she would’ve been in the same place she was before.

I’m a sucker for vampire stuff, and I still enjoyed reading this one. Something was missing, but the writing was still solid. I’m looking forward to the third one! Maybe I like werewolves more. Sorry, Amos.
