Shift by Hugh Howey

4.0

When I started this book, I was a little conflicted. I'd become so invested in the characters and plot of the first book, I wasn't sure I'd be able to dig into this one, what with it being primarily all new characters and locations with only mentions of events of the first book sprinkled throughout.
It took a little bit, but I found myself deep into the silo world again.
SHIFT sheds light on how the silo system came to be in the first place. The circumstances, the lead-up, and the characters involved are all great. There is even some well-written animal character work.
It leaves you on a cliffhanger, definitely going to read the third book.
