My first full 5 star Octavia Butler book, and what finally had this one hitting full marks was the complete imagination of the stories. The Evening and The Morning and the Night was particularly interesting to me, along with the essays Positive Obsession and Furor Sciribendi. Honestly, I wish some of these got made into larger pieces but thank goodness Octavia had them published in the first place. I’m in awe of this one and can hopefully buy it myself one day and invest more into her short story collections if she has more. I never thought I’d love an author’s short story collections more than her series or individual novels but here we are! I’m so happy to have read it.
