Le Père Goriot by Honoré de Balzac
4.0
emotional sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Started slow but ramped up somewhat. Rastignac and Goriot grew on me quite a lot, and the ending was quite emotionally resonant. Balzac also displays a witty humor at some points in his narration, which I liked. Could have done without the casual antisemitism, but that's 1835 for you.
