Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir
by Jenny Lawson
I listened to the audiobook and man does the author have a lot of energy and whimsy as she reads. I accidentally put that it should be on faster than regular speed. Do not do this! She already read very quickly and since the story jumps around a lot in a quirky way--it is very easy to miss something pivotal.
So this humorous account of Jenny Lawson growing up in rural TX with a taxidermist for a father leads to some strange things going on in the house where she grew up. The stories are funny and odd and some are borderline unbelievable.
She struggles with anxiety and some of the ridiculousness which is working in HR. I'm so glad she cast off that career to be a writer. This book will definitely bring you some joy to listen to it.
I must say that sometimes all the haphazard jumping from one thing to another gave my ears a bit of whiplash from time to time. You have to be on your game to keep up with all the quirky tales. I am also glad I didn't have a taxidermist as a father. I just don't think I'm cut out for that kind of up and close personal encounters with loads of dead animals.
