Gild by Raven Kennedy

3.0

I’m holding out hope that the series is just gearing up…

Kennedy’s writing captures the attention and she exhibits strong world building, but I cannot seem to connect with the main character, Auren. Auren is naive, shallow, and apathetic to her potential.
Up until chapter thirteen, I found myself asking, “but why do I care?”. Thirteen drew me in some, then a few chapters later I felt the intrigue slipping away again. The characters don’t feel well developed. Sail was the only one I started to have an interest in, and he was promptly killed off.
Then, the last seventy five to one hundred pages hit and I suddenly felt like things were starting to come together. I still think Auren is a twit, but the story and world drew me in enough to hope that I might connect to another character in book two, which I’m surprised to say I do think I’ll read.
