Girlhood by Melissa Febos

reflective medium-paced

2.0

The author’s experiences, as narrated, were shaped by immense privilege which seems invisible to her, and it’s hard to look past this when trying to sympathise with her stories. As Febos describes it, she grew up conventionally beautiful and wealthy, with constant opportunity for education, support, and redemption. Yet she is apparently unable to see how these privileges make her experiences very specific - not, in fact, general experiences of girlhood shared by most females.
