Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates
3.0
dark mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Really needs a thorough edit. For example, one sentence reads: “The familiar name near the sheet’s base is achingly familiar: Kiernan, followed by a tidy scrawl.” It was distracting to have that kind of repetition and an oxymoron all within the same sentence.

I guessed at the murderer’s identity and the main point of subterfuge used to disguise their identity. The characters were a mixed bag; some received a lot more attention to detail than others. I haven’t come away from this feeling particularly attached to any of them or their problems, though.
