andylancelot 's review for:
Argylle: A Novel
by Elly Conway
I’d heard a great deal about “Argylle” and that there was a tie in book alongside the movie, and also that the movie had little to do with the movie but was somehow connected. I resolved to read the book first, having read mixed reviews (even some terrible reviews).
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Not a classic novel or anything close to a Fleming Bond book despite the ‘sticker’ declaring so on the cover (although I learned later that this may have been a throwaway comment or tongue in cheek by the commentator)
I found the subject matter highly engaging and characterisation good. A fun read… I found myself wanting to read more - the ‘Fleming sweep’ was there certainly which kept me wanting to turn the pages…
I googled ‘the Amber room’ and just one thing niggles: surely it does belong to the Russians if it does exist and they have every right to it so despite their methods maybe Federov was right (in this ambition anyway).
Would definitely read another Argylle book
