Jess is like any other teenager. She’s in her junior year and is trying to get through it with minimal drama. Between her crush on her childhood best friend, her overbearing and overprotective parents, her younger sisters health problems and the odd feeling that not everything is as it seems in her hometown of Swickley… Jess has a lot on her plate. Weird things keep happening in Swickley. Half the town is sick with the flu, conversations end abruptly when Jess appears, and one day a tiny sleek black device drops in front of Jess with an apple logo on it. Is Jess losing her mind or is something strange happening around her?

My favourite part of This Is Not The Jess Show was all the late 90s/early 2000s references! It was an absolute trip to be back in the tech less age. If you grew up in this time period you’ll completely dive into this book.

Jess was a great character, I really liked her spunk and tenacity. The emotions were realistic and definitely teen angsty with that touch of female maturity at that age.

A little bit of a mix of The Truman Show, Black Mirror and My So-Called Life and you’ve got This Is Not The Jess Show. A great YA thriller that’s not too heavy and keeps you entertained with references and the plot.
