In addition to a sweet story about a mother’s unconditional love, the illustrations and vocabulary are starters in teaching about traditional Inuit culture of Alaska thousands of years ago. While neither the author nor illustrator have tribal affiliations, a note on the dedication page says the McCord Museum of Canadian History in Montreal checked the manuscript for accuracy in its portrayal of Inuit culture.
