Even tho this book has all the tropes popular in dragon rider books, Ascendant changes some. The importance of food, the magic system, the human/draconic bond... And just to make a few references make it feel like I'm watching a ttrpg in full display. Holt and Talia are young, flawed yet they want to help and even if their worlds are different they find common ground. Love. The rhythm is fast, the battles engaging and it leaves mysteries open for the next two books! I'm dying to read the rest of the saga!
