Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland

adventurous mysterious fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix

4.0

Five people find themselves tasked with an extraordinary endeavor. They must kill King Joon, the king of Yusan. They each have special skills, and if they are able to trust one another enough to work together, they just might be able to pull it off. But each of them is hiding something, and it’s hard to tell who can be trusted.

Five Broken Blades combines fantasy and mystery in an enticing read full of betrayal, secrets, and lies. This is an accessible fantasy, with multiple POVs. There isn’t a ton of in depth world building and the chapters are short and engaging. I absolutely loved Sora. She has such a fascinating story. Royo was another favorite of mine! The little clues dropped throughout the book were so fun and the plot twist was really well done. This one had me guessing until the end! It was an enjoyable read, and I’m already excited for the next book in this series!
