i can't believe how well anne with an 'e' captured anne's contagious wonder for beauty and how she expressed it! it's been awhile since i watched the show but as soon as we met anne in the book, the resemblance was striking. i adore how anne is written in this book, and matthew and marilla's near-immediate fondness for her was so sweet. this book captures such an aspirational love of beauty (particularly in nature), but i also loved listening to anne's misadventures along the way. i also got very, very choked up at the end

when matthew died; anne's articulation of the grief she felt was so heartwrenching

that it was impossible not to feel the feelings with her! major props to the author for writing such a lovely portrayal of found-family even at the start of the 20th century, especially with such progressive themes!

i did really like the narrator as well, although the audio sometimes jumped so drastically in quality (probably due to editing together multiple takes) that it was distracting - the narrator would suddenly sound quieter or louder, sometimes even articulating the words in a slightly different way. all in all it was still a good audiobook production but i would recommend listening to a more recent audiobook edition if available!
