Bad Like Us by Gabriella Lepore

Cross-posted from my blog where there's more information on where I got my copy and links and everything.  https://lainahastoomuchsparetime.wordpress.com/2025/06/16/things-ive-read-recently-182-a-bunch-of-meh-and-a-suprise/

This was just kind of mid for me. It was okay. I think this is a sign I need to be more picky about the YA thrillers I read because I spent a lot of this book a little bored. The book is just a lot of teen drama and like, it’s a teen thriller, what did I expect? I just didn’t enjoy it that much, and I think that’s a sign about my reading habits.

I found this really short for how many characters there are. There are NINE characters in this book and it’s only a little over three hundred pages. The characters don’t really have time to be developed. Every character has like two traits at most. Eva has very little personality besides “wants to be a marine biologist” which comes up like… twice. I honestly don’t feel like I could tell you anything about her beyond that and half the book is in her POV. The character relationships are also weak – some of them only interact once or twice and I didn’t get much sense of their relationships or dynamic.

I didn’t hate this or anything. Just it was kind of dull. When I’m noticing typoes, you know I’m not engaged.

Representation: Eva’s friend Alice is Black. It is mentioned exactly once. She is also queer.

Content notes: Murder, but honestly not really that much violence.
