by Andre Agassi
My first thought upon finishing this book is that it couldn't possibly have been written by a man with a 9th grade education. Agassi speaks candidly and openly about his sport, his struggles and his triumphs. He does it with humor and inspiration and a self-awareness that is surprising and refreshing. And he does it with beautiful writing. When I was tempted to think he must have over-stated the downright abusive actions of his father when he was a child, I looked at the photograph on the back of the book. Agassi as a small child, swinging a tennis racket, looking at the ball with a poignant mixture of concentration and terror. I've always been an Agassi fan, and this book just reinforced my respect for him as an athlete and as a human being. Excellent.
