She's No Princess by Laura Lee Guhrke

4.0

3.5 stars. This novel really needs to be longer imo. The final chapter suggests a path to solve the last big problem
SpoilerIan has lost his diplomatic position due to a scandal involving Lucia and although they're married and in love, they're both struggling -- he because he's lost his life's work, she because she knows he's unhappy and blames herself (they were both to blame for the scandal) -- and finally he decides to try for the House of Commons instead
, but I would have felt more secure about the HEA if we could actually see them starting to work towards it, instead of just having a quick conversation at the end. However, I really liked the characterization of both Ian and Lucia. They're well-rounded with positive and negative traits that make them seem like real people, not perfect ideals who carry the idiot ball when the plot requires. Neither of them gets a love-induced personality transplant and it makes sense why they are the way they are.
