Unfortunately after seeing the movie version of Inkheart, I already knew most of what occurred in the first book. The movie follows it fairly closely, though it wraps up everything into a nice little package and doesn't leave any loose ends like the book. But Inkspell was totally new, all completely different. I'm consistently impressed not only with Funke's imagination, but also her organizational skills. She has four or five different things going on throughout the whole book, characters who haven't seen each other since the first book and don't see each other again till the last chapters. And she doesn't lose pace, or trip up, or confuse people. It all strings together nicely and skips pieces that don't need to be written. Usually sequels or middle books in a trilogy are the weakest ones, but Inkspell might have surpassed it's predecessor.
Or maybe I just liked it more because Dustfinger was more prominent. ;) On to book three!
