If you're coming from the anime, the Apothecary Diaries Vol 1 isn't going to offer you much in the way of a different story from those first few episodes but it's definitely worth reading for the art alone. I think the anime's art is beautiful. I'm particularly fond of the way Maomao and Gyokuyō are animated but in the manga, Jinshi really takes home first prize. Truly a face that could topple empires.
