Corin's brother entered the tower five years ago and never came out. It's assumed that he's dead, but Corin doesn't believe it and it planning on saving him. This book begins with Corin in the tower, hoping to gain his own attunement and, ultimately, to save his brother, but it doesn't go quite how he expected.

While this is a detailed and well thought out world, with an intricate and original magic system, there was so much information constantly being dumped, this felt slow and a little tedious to me. I actually tuned out of the audiobook a few times and ended up speeding it up more than normal to finish, because the story was interesting and I wanted to know what happened, I just wanted it to get there faster with less exposition.

I really enjoyed the team Corin builds up, Sera being my favorite and I will likely continue the series later.
