*I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review*
This was definitely an interesting premise, and I enjoyed this book more than I expected. It was an interesting premise that magic was a curse, and I really liked Aislynn’s personality even if she was constantly trying to keep it under wraps.

Aislynn was an easy character to like because even though she was basically taught that deep down she was a horrible just because she was a woman, she still tried to do the right thing. It even came to a point when she had to make a decision about if she would allow people to be hurt because she was taught not to use magic, and I felt like she made the right one. That’s not to say that Aislynn was a perfect character because she certainly had her flaws but overall she was definitely a good person.

Elisa Sussman did a great job of creating a supporting cast that was great. I truly enjoyed all of them, and especially Brigid with her secrets. This world was overall a dark place, and it seems like a male populace cultivated it that way. I am definitely curious about Thalia and what her role seems to be, I’m not convinced that she is just Aislynn’s godmother.

I didn’t expect this to be a series or for the ending to be so abrupt. It seemed like there was plenty of time to wrap it up, but I am glad that there will be more to Aislynn’s story. I am really hoping that the mystery and intrigue go a little deeper than anticipated.

This book was a bit of a surprise as I hadn’t expected to like it as much as I did. I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars, and would definitely recommend it for any readers who love fantasy, fairy godmothers, and magic!
