Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Stars
Spice: 🌶️/5
What I loved:
•The complex, layered family dynamics and representation of grief
•Jack Dean! What a swoony, strong, perfect alpha book boyfriend
•The inheritance "game" was entertaining and addictive
•Character development of all 4 Storm children
•The blend of mystery, romance, and self-reflection
What I didn't:
I truly loved almost everything about this book. My only two critiques are:
1) The pacing of the romance — While I loved the relationship betweenJack and Alice , the speed from initial attraction to lifelong commitment felt a little rushed. A few more deep conversations or quieter moments could have made their arc feel more earned and grounded.
2) Elisabeth’s arc — While the other sibling storylines received satisfying closure, Elisabeth's felt unfinished. I understand that some people remain bitter or emotionally distant, but her absence from the ending stood out. A short second epilogue to glimpse where all the children land post-fallout would have been incredibly satisfying.
Overall reaction:
I loved this book. I literally couldn't put it down. The storyline was addictive and the romance between Alice and Jack was downright dreamy. This is one I would re-read every summer.
