If you're a fan of the ACOTAR series, I might suggest this companion book to you, but to be honest, I really don't think it was worth the time if I could have been 230 pages into the next book in the series.

After the big war, everyone is trying to find their footing and rebuild their courts and also preparing for the annual Winter Solstice that's coming up. This companion book follows different POVs of different characters in the days of and leading up to the Winter Solstice and you get a glimpse into the everyday life of the characters.

The different POVs is nice because you don't get that in the main books, or very rarely do. It's nice to see what your favourite side characters might be thinking as well and I was mostly satisfied with that. Mor’s POV I thought was rather lacking and pretty much nothing happened from what I can recall. The other POV’s weren't too bad though - a nice insight.

I do admit, I do like seeing what the characters do on a day to day basis (even though others found it boring) because in the main books, you easily forget that they do sometimes have a bit of spare time between the chaos and plotting. I really do love these characters so it's nice to see that side of them as well. However, I think these are the only positives I can really think of.

As a companion book, there isn't really much of a plot, which I expected, however I'm aware that some may find that to be quite dull or pointless. Though I didn't expect a full plotline, I did expect the book to at least add a little something to the main story or to the characters. However, the whole book did just seem rather pointless and there is literally nothing to gain from reading this.

In fact I'd wager and say that you would be rather disappointed in the characters because some of the actions taken by the characters here were so cruel and harsh that it left me wondering who that character was because it definitely wasn't the character I knew. It actually made me lose a little love for some of the characters which is a shame because they're the main reason why I come back to the series.

I personally didn't think it was worth the time to read. It made me lose love in some characters and didn't add anything to the story which is what I hope for in a companion book. However, you do get to know the character’s life and thoughts a little better, even if some actions are very different to what I'd expect.
