Lord of the Darkwood by Lian Hearn

4.0

Lord of the Darkwood seemed to be the book where the ends were being placed in order to weave together the epic finale of the Tale of Shikanoko. The relationships between the characters had solidified. It was satisfying to watch some villains go down, some misunderstood characters meet unjust fates, and new forces of conflict springing among the world.

It might have been really easy to make all five of Lady Taros' demon children evil, but Hearn did a magnificent time humanizing them. I think the one thing that bothered me the most was how much talking and nonodescript periods of time had passed. But needless to say, the series overall is very well-organized and well-paced.
