The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh

adventurous emotional hopeful inspiring lighthearted fast-paced

This book was amazing. I am completely in awe with this world and the writing. The first few chapters I was hesitant because it jumps right into the story but once I got past that I could not put this book down.

I love the lush writing and world building. All the the descriptions are beautiful and just add to the story. I loved all of the different gods and their domains. I also just loved the spirit town and how alive it felt. This book reads like a fairytale which I found really interesting and think it was executed perfectly.

There are so many themes in this book but I loved the focus on family. All of Mina’s actions were to protect and save them. She is loyal, determined, fearless, and dedicated. I love how she was willing to do whatever it took to break the curse and save her people. I also liked how love was a feature in the book but it wasn’t the main motivator. She still was willing to sacrifice her needs and love for those of her world. I loved that her ancestors were supporting her along the way and that she made new friends to help her as well.

This book blends everything that I love about fantasy. It was heartbreakingly beautiful and so well written. I loved all of the stories and myths that were told throughout. This book really encompasses the cultural aspect of passing down folk tales. I would highly recommend this one!
