Really enjoyed this book once I hit about the halfway mark. It was slow-going for me at first, but I’m keenly aware that this might entirely be due to the fact that I have been very busy at work. I found myself very attached to the protagonist Noemi as well as her unlikely friend Francis. The mystery really took hold of me in the back half and was as unexpected as it was horrifying. I thought Moreno-Garcia excellently wove in serious themes like the effects of colonialism and women’s healthcare throughout this “big, spooky house” ghost story, and I also enjoyed reading the few interviews of the author included in the back. Looking forward to reading more of her work.
